What is Totality?
Well-being is shaped by multiple inter-related systems (physical, psychological, social, behavioral, lifestyle, spiritual etc.) Acceptance of all the various aspects of who we are enables us to embrace fully the true joy and wonder life has in store. We make mistakes; we are faulty by design. Learning to stand in the presence of our imperfections while also embracing our talents and abilities is what ultimately leads us to greater self acceptance. It is then possible to see ourselves as a whole unique person with unlimited potential to cope with life’s challenges and with a real capacity for transformation. Self discovery and resulting awareness of our totality makes us aware of our connectedness and allows us to share our genuine signature with the world. We could then live our lives with a feeling of belonging while being true to our authentic selves.
As human beings, we are constantly having experiences and then tell ourselves stories about them. We start dwelling on the past or projecting into the future. We try to determine whether or not every experience has measured up to our expectations or the expectations of others. We feel the pressure of trying to figure out where and how we fit in. This often leads to harmful beliefs and ideas as well as self sabotaging behaviors and attitudes. Learning to let go of these unhealthy stories while learning to forgive, surrender and trust your inner wisdom, gives individuals the opportunity to develop clarity within each situation and make needed decisions and changes. Inner wisdom resides within each human being. To reach this sense of knowing, one must practice mindfulness. It is becoming more fully aware of the present moment; non-judgmentally and completely. We could then hear our inner voice and suddenly our actions and words are congruent with our beliefs and values. Life adjustments could then be made and we can have lives that are true to who we are, lives that are filled with what we want, and lives that are lived authentically.
