Our emotions come out of seemingly nowhere. Once detected by our awareness we make a split second judgment, Pleasant or unpleasant? Wanted or unwanted? If it is unpleasant or unwanted we have a tendency to want to make it go away or fix it. To put it more simply we struggle against it. When we struggle it is a lot like being in a pool of water. What many people do not realize is that when they are in water that is over their head, as long as there is some air in the lungs, the water will not allow the body to sink. We can simply lie on your back and breathe easy. The reason people drown in water is due to panic that ensues, the fatigue and the eventual loss of air in the lungs that would keep us afloat. The valuable lesson in this that when confronted with an unwanted or unpleasant emotion, try floating with it.
