What if the Hokey Pokey was REALLY what is was all about?

Life is full. Full of the good and bad, the ups and downs, the pain and they joys. Think of all the good times. Yes they are good, but are those times here now? What about the painful times. Are they here now? Even if you answered yes to any of these questions, everything turns into a memory. Memories fade over the course of time.  Have you ever looked back on a picture and not remember the name of the person you were sitting with? Have you looked at that same picture and not remembered where it was taken? Think of the bad times. How many bad times have you experienced in your life? Of this number, too numerous to even count, what percent of them can you recall? And of all the times that you can remember how many of them are relevant NOW? It is time to turn yourself around… That’s what it’s all about.

Love Thyself…

Self hate is the single most destructive thing that we humans inflict on ourselves. Have you ever had a painful stinging wound that was slow to heal? How did it feel when someone accidentally or intentionally touched it? Do you remember how much more extreme the pain felt? When we engage in self hate, it is as if we are constantly picking at our wound, inflaming it, making it worse. With no chance to heal, the world (people and events) inevitably touch our wound sending the pain soaring. The pain we feel is the pain from the original wound, PLUS the pain of our self abuse, PLUS the pain of others touching it.

The very moment we stop our self abuse, the wound begins to heal and the pain subsides. The world can touch our wound and we no longer react out of our own pain. Decrease your pain immediately by nurturing yourself with unconditional love. Watch and enjoy as the world becomes a less painful place to live.

Challenges in our lives are opportunities for growth from which gratitude can arise.

Could you imagine a life where everything comes easy? Would we appreciate anything if we didn’t have to work for it? Think about how things would be if everything were just handed to you. Would you ever appreciate anything?

My college professor used to say that the “United Negro College Fund almost got it right”

For those of you who remember, the slogan of this organization is, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste”. My college professor said that it should be “a mind is a terrible thing to mind”. The mind is a chatter box of thought. Can you put a thought in a jar? Does it eat, sleep, or drink? What are they really? How much attention do you give your thoughts? What would it feel like to give them less attention? Try it for a while and observe what happens.

No Story… No Problem

If I asked whether walking is easy or difficult, most would reply it is easy, unless you have a disability of some kind that would prevent you from doing so. The truth is, walking is a highly complex and difficult task for the body to perform. You plan your steps carefully all while watching for obstacles and keeping your balance on uneven or moving surfaces. Have you ever watched a toddler try to walk for the first time? They fall, cry, sometimes bleed, and can even break bones. Do you think they would say would say it is easy? Do you remember when you took your first step? Do you think it was easy for you? Chances are you had the same experiences as the typical rookie. Why do toddlers fall, cry, and get right back up and start walking again? It is because they do not have enough cognitive awareness to connect the walking to the pain. Even if they do have the awareness that the walking caused the pain, there is no story that dictates, “pain is bad and needs to be avoided”. Toddlers never say to themselves, “walking is dangerous and I am not going to do it ever again”. When you fall as an adult do you tell yourself that you will never walk again? We have thoroughly let go of the idea that walking is difficult, it does not even cross our minds.

Imagine if we didn’t have to tell so many elaborate and dramatic stories. How would our lives be different?
