I was on a hiking tour through Mammoth Cave in Kentucky. Before the tour began, the sky was getting dark. A fierce Kentucky storm was moving in. As we descended deep in to the cave nearly a mile below the ground all was peaceful. On the surface the earth was being pummeled by the storm. The power had been knocked out in the cave due to the storm and the electric lights had gone dark. When you are below ground, there is absolutely no light for your eyes to adjust to. I noticed how peaceful it was below ground. No lightning, thunder, or wind. I remember looking at my wrist watch and noticed it was 3:20pm. At that moment I felt my life change. Darkness, the “strongest” darkness nature can create was not able to obscure the light of a meagerly glow in the dark watch from being seen. There was peace in the midst of a powerful storm and light overcame the darkness. We have the ability to be peaceful in the face of any storm and to know that even in our darkest time all we need to do is realize our own light. Everything changes when we change our perspective.
